What I Wished My Parents Had Taught Me: Nothing More.

There were a lot I wished my parents had taught or provided me.

I wished they had signed me up for piano classes.

I wished they had taken me to swimming classes.

I wished my parents had taught me business skills.

I wished they had taught me to handle relationships.

I wished they had taught me to control my emotions.

I wished they had taught me how to advance in my careers.

I wished they could have done so much more for me.

I thought of how much more I would be with those wisdom from them.

I thought of what place I would have been in my career if I had those.

But those were my wishes a few years back.

When I always wanted more.

When I thought I deserved more.

I was too greedy and selfish.

How could I ever ask for more from my parents?

Now, I realized how lucky and blessed I was.

My parents were not and are not wealthy. They are not the most assertive. They are not the most perfect.

But they are the best parents I could ask for.

They strive everyday for me and my brother. They have done whatever they can, and have tried whatever they could so that my brother and I can have a better life.

The road to where we are has not been easy.

And they have demonstrated so many great strengths that I failed to see before.

They are diligent, they are determined, they are brave, and they bet everything for me and my brother.

I started taking upon responsibility for anything I don’t have. It’s my turn now to become who I want to be and it’s not my parents’ duty anymore.

I learn keyboard myself at home at age 30.

I signed up for swimming classes at age 30, and I am now a real swimmer.

I learn business skills by diligently observing and asking others.

I learn to handle my personal relationships better by acknowledging and facing my insecurity.

I learn to control my emotions with self-awareness and mindfulness.

I explore my career options with those with experience and know that my parents will always be there to support me.

Now I am a better daughter because of these lessons.

Now I am a better parent because of these lessons. I do my best, I don’t judge myself harshly, I value effort more than results and ability.

I am so grateful for my parents. They are the best parents for me.

I am so spoiled to be able to live with them right now and many more years. <3

Forever grateful,

ThaoNB
