Successful people share a common trait.
They are good communicators.
And good communicators are good writers.
After I started writing for the past 2 years, it occurred to me that it is not easy to be a good writer. When I first started writing, I often did not know what to write, how to write, and how to express my ideas.
I often abandoned my writing mid-way not knowing how to proceed.
It was tough for a while not knowing what I was doing and if I would go anywhere.
But after a while, it clicked and I kept writing until now.
Gradually, I will share some of my key learnings in this process. I am still learning and I am no way a good writer yet, but I am content that I write.
A good writer has an exceptional ability to explain complex concepts, to write in a sensible manner that flows, keeps people engaged, that contains a great deal of energy and power, and that impacts and moves readers.
When I read a good writing, I feel those energy flowing through me, that is one of the reasons I love to read and write.
When I read a good writing though, I might not know the amount of hours, work the author has put into hone their skills to such level, the amount of drafts they went through, the loneliness, the solidarity, the courage they commit to hone their writing.
Many of us wanted to write, started writing, but abandoned the practice before we got any good.
The society is cruel, it sets standards and expectations, it often only celebrates one’s successes but would not care about the failures, the effort, or the submerged bottom of the iceberg.
Human minds are crueler, they restrain our abilities to those standards.
So if you ever find yourself wanting to write and express yourself, start writing.
Start writing badly, start writing non-sense, write anything that pops into your mind, write daily, write like there is no tomorrow. (That was how I started many many years ago 🙂).
Then, post something you are proud of, ask for feedback. Never stop improving your trade.
If you need ideas, read.
If you ever find yourself telling you that you are no writer, you are no artist, take a deep breath, knowing that there is an artist in everyone, it is just that every artist needs time to hone their skills, same to you.
The path will be rocky at first, for everyone.
Just take that first few steps, persisting through the initial difficulties, the non-knowing moments, success waits for you at the end of that difficult road.
You are beautiful just the way you are,
