Stories. Tell.

“đź“– Storytelling is a superpower! 🚀 Emotionally engaging, universally appealing, and incredibly memorable. 🌍 It connects us, inspires action, and preserves cultures. 🤝 Unlock the power of stories to build bridges and leave a lasting impact! ✨ #Storytelling #PowerOfStories #Connection”

This is 99% of the posts that you can expect to get from ChatGPT if you prompt a social media post on the power of storytelling.

Boring, isn’t it?

GenAI is fast and time-saving, I don’t disagree. However, the most important thing it does not do is that it does not connect.

It lacks the utmost ingredient of a social post – a human connection or a story.

Now try it again, let’s talk about Storytelling with an actual story of mine.

For the first 18 years of my life, I was always under the impression that getting good grades at school would do me well. I invested most of my time in schools, studying throughout secondary school to get into a prestigious high school in Hanoi, and then attended one of the top universities in Vietnam.

When I came to Canada, I met many challenges with handling friendships and relationships despite my highly extroverted nature. For a while, I did not figure out why I was failing and always felt discontented with everything I did.

I often judged myself harshly.

It has gotten better. Now I tend to ignore my self-judgement and try to focus on the positive energy I can bring to others. I also learn to live in the present, listen better, and pay attention to the person in front of me. This mindfulness practice has nurtured great connections for me with those around me.

I don’t know how good of a story that was, but it is certainly a better piece of content than a generic GenAI post.

The power of story telling is enormous. I plan to read more books on the power of storytelling before I can share more.

However, I do know that our human brains are wired for stories. That is why TedTalks, books, social media posts, and blogs most always weave in personal stories of the authors.

I strive to start my blogs with my own stories. I have so many stories to tell and it is also a nice way to record these stories for the future so I can recall them when I want.

I had much reservation in the past about sharing my own stories. I would often think that no one would care to read about my stories.

Gradually, I have gotten accustomed to writing them out. I set my reservation aside because I believe I can help someone by telling my stories. Maybe someone in a position of reservation or bottleneck can find the answer in my stories.

So as I write, I practice.

Storytelling.

Stories tell and show.

Please share your stories, too! <3

Best,

Thao
