2023 was a great year for me. If I have to pick a word, I would pick “gratefulness”. This should be the significant word for any year for me, but it is a good fit for this year so let’s go ahead with it.
Above all, I am so grateful for all the friendships and companionship I’ve made in the year, all the people I’ve talked to and shared my time with. It is truly a pleasure to share a space with the most talented and bright people. I am still one with many shortcomings and I hope to be better and do better to support others. I am grateful for my family, friends, mentors, colleagues, classmates, and professors. You’ve all made my year such a highlight. One of my 2024 goals is to let people know how appreciative I am towards them <3. THANK YOU!
In 2023, thanks to Ms. E from CBC, I got my first CBC First Person article published about my multigenerational family. This is a life goal and I am so grateful.
In 2023, I participated in the provincial election campaign with a team that I really vibe with. It felt like I was where I belonged even though my right knee started to hurt after many door-knocking days. Thanks to RV for inviting to the team!
In 2023, I started the first semester of law school. I enjoyed it a lot, or maybe a bit too much. Since college, I was never able to truly focus on schools. I usually worked part-time or full-time. Now, I got to study full-time with the support of my whole family. It is truly a great opportunity. Thanks to my family, school friends, and professor for making it such a pleasant experience.
In 2023, I read 20 books of a variety of topics. I love how enlightening reading is for me, it frees me from the limits of my brain. I hope to do more reading this year.
2023 also taught me swimming, one of my life goals. I’d thought I could never swim. But now I can, and that frees and relaxes me. I came to realize my love for the water. Thanks to the many swimming instructors I had for the 9-month practice period and my swimming buddies!
In 2023, I learned to play the keyboard. I’ve gotten to a 30-week streak of practice, three times of at least 10 minutes of keyboard each week. This achievement is contributing to the developers of the Simply Piano app and Ms. VN for sharing the app with me <3
In 2023, I also felt the full strength what minimalism can help me with focusing on the important thing by removing clutters. It is so life-changing with each closet I clean out each time. It is taking such a long time to fully declutter my house but it is so worth it. I thank my dad and mom for helping me declutter, thanks to WINS for always taking my donation.
Oh, also I found such a great system for organizing my notes, my journals, and so on. It is a big achievement for me because for me, the ability to write well equates the ability to think clearly through an issue and reason effectively. Thanks to my favourite stationary shops, Recess and Reid, for setting up my binder system, and to the many apps I use to organize which I will tribute in a separate post.
I am pretty sure I am missing way too many people here including my mentors, the lawyers that connected with me and welcomed me into this new community, my GSA friends and colleagues, my aunt and cousins, my daughter, my husband, you are naturally a part of this well-connected ecosystem of support for me. I can be so well and whole because of you all.
Here to 2024 with more achievements and gratefulness.
All the best,
Thao
